Starky Dog

The Royal Canadian of the Fonty Dogs,a virtual Douglas DoWright, a Gordon “Lightfoot” in name only, this Pennsylvania import was quite an imposing figure to opposing pitchers–(and later, to pitchers of beer). Never one to raise his voice, Starky Dog managed to get his way by “physique intimidation” : no one on the team–save Harbery Dog– could stretch a tee shirt like Starky Dog. Did this help the team? Not much. Though he hit the long ball, he rarely crossed home (during the game) and almost never crossed home after the Frosty Mug, (being under the influence of Gilly Dog). Nevertheless the role Starky Dog played was indisputable, and by most accounts, not recollected.
